The suspect and motive have been identified in the September 3rd incident of a man shooting at a school bus.
The suspect—now identified as Cedric Baxter in Buena Park Police Department’s September 9th media release—was seen shooting at a school bus by a Buena Park police officer in the area of Orangethorpe Avenue and Western Avenue.
It was reported that only a driver and a student were on the bus. Homicide Detectives later discovered that the bus driver was Baxter’s wife.
“Baxter was estranged from his wife and had an active domestic violence restraining order against him,” according to the release.
After leading the officer on a brief chase, Baxter drove through a locked fence into the parking lot of a Buena Park School District building and struck another vehicle. Baxter continued resisting police, and an officer-involved shooting claimed his life.
“Baxter had a lengthy criminal history and at the time of the incident he was a parolee at large,” states the release. “It has been determined that this is an isolated incident.”
