SUSPECT WHO SHOT MOTORIST DIES IN OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING AFTER VEHICLE PURSUIT
Originally published as an Escondido Police Department press release –
“On September 17, at 5:01 PM, a suspect shot from his vehicle into another occupied vehicle in Escondido. The victim vehicle was occupied by a 20-year-old male driver and a 15-year-old passenger.
The driver of the victim vehicle received a gunshot wound and sought medical aid at Palomar Medical Center. The victim’s injuries were not life threatening and he was later released from the hospital.
There is no known relationship between the suspect, the shooting victim, and passenger. The initial investigating officers obtained a description of the suspect and his vehicle.
At 6:12 PM, an Escondido Police Officer spotted the suspect vehicle in the area of Washington Ave. and Citrus Ave. The suspect fled from police and a vehicle pursuit ensued.
At 6:19 PM, the suspect crashed at the intersection of Bear Valley Pkwy and Encino Drive. At the conclusion of the vehicle pursuit, an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect was in possession of a semi-automatic handgun at the scene. The suspect was transported to Palomar Medical Center and later died from his injuries.
The officer involved was not injured and his name will be released at a later time. The suspect is a 38-year-old Escondido resident and his name will not be released until his family is notified. This investigation is ongoing.”
