Sutter County man arrested after horseplay allegedly turns into assault, carjacking
A Sutter County man was recently arrested in connection to an incident in which he and a handful of others allegedly assaulted someone they’d been smoking weed with, then took his car.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, in the early morning hours of September 4, a patrol sergeant was flagged down near Sutter High School by a woman with a juvenile male passenger. The passenger told the sergeant that he’d been “jumped” by a group of people he’d been smoking marijuana with — claiming that what had started as horseplay turned into the entire group ganging up on him and beating him up.
After the alleged assault, the victim said the group piled into his car and drove off with it, taking his wallet with them. The victim suffered minor injuries but declined medical attention, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Sutter County Sheriff’s Office detectives soon identified Javier Campuzano as the primary suspect in the incident. Campuzano was arrested on September 16 and booked at the Sutter County Jail on suspicion of carjacking and battery.
