Second Suspect Arrested in Saturday Night Shooting/Homicide

“On September 25, 2021, at 9:19 p.m., Santa Rosa Police Officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Sebastopol Road regarding a gunshot victim.  Multiple callers reported there was a male gunshot victim.  When officers arrived, they located the adult victim laying in the parking lot of the business.  They observed the victim was shot at least once and not responsive.  Officers rendered medical aide until Fire and AMR personnel arrived.  The victim was transported to a local area hospital and was later pronounced deceased.  The name of the victim will not be released until next of kin is notified.

The Violent Crimes Investigation Team responded and took over the investigation.  Investigators learned the victim was in a parking lot on the 1900 block of Sebastopol Road when two suspects approached him and fired multiple rounds at him from handguns.  The victim was struck multiple times.  He fell to the ground and the suspects fled the area.

At this time, SRPD Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and looking for anyone who witnessed this homicide or has information that would assist with the case.  Anyone with information about the investigation is encouraged to contact SRPD through our online Tip Line:  www.srcity.org/CrimeTips.

A reward of up to $2,500 is being offered by the Sonoma County Alliance Community Engagement and Safety Rewards Fund.  The reward is for information leading to the arrest of the suspect or suspects involved in this homicide.

Detectives from our Violent Crime Investigations Team have been following up on leads related to the homicide. As a result of their investigation, detectives identified a 29-year-old Santa Rosa resident, Fogatia Fuiava, as a suspect in the crime.

On September 27th, 2021, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Santa Rosa Police Detectives with the assistance of the Sonoma County Sheriff’s SWAT Team served search and arrest warrants in the 300 block of Anteeo Way.  Sonoma County Sheriff SWAT members took Fogatia Fuiava into custody, without incident.

Santa Rosa Police Detectives searched the residence and located additional evidence related to the homicide. SRPD Officers booked Fogatia Fuiava into the county jail on a charge of PC § 187- Murder.

This investigation is still ongoing, and detectives have significant investigative work to follow up on.  We believe there are additional suspects involved in this incident as well as numerous witnesses who have not yet come forward.  We need our community’s help. Anyone with information about the investigation is encouraged to contact SRPD through our online Tip Line:  www.srcity.org/CrimeTips.

Victim Identification: Kenneth McDaniel, a 27-year-old, Santa Rosa resident.  McDaniel was shot several times during the incident and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a local hospital.  McDaniel’s next of kin has been notified.

Detectives from our Violent Crime Investigations Team have been following up on leads related to the homicide to identify the second shooter. As a result of their investigation, detectives identified the second shooting suspect as Ednie Afamasaga, a 27-year-old Santa Rosa resident.

On September 28th, 2021, at approximately 4:15 p.m., Santa Rosa Police Detectives arrested Ednie Afamasaga following a traffic stop. He was taken into custody, without incident.

Detectives served an additional search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Brookwood Drive. Santa Rosa Police Detectives searched the residence and located additional evidence related to the homicide. SRPD Officers booked Ednie Afamasaga into the county jail on a charge of PC § 187- Murder.

Detectives are still conducting follow up related to this investigation.  We believe there are numerous witnesses who have not yet come forward. Anyone with information about the investigation is encouraged to contact SRPD through our online Tip Line:  www.srcity.org/CrimeTips.”
