Man Held in Custody for $1 Million Bond on Suspicion of Murdering a Woman

 

BAY POINT— Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office deputies investigating a domestic disturbance incident arrested a man who allegedly murdered a woman.

The suspect is being held in custody for more than $1 million bond. Deputies were dispatched to a residence located on Island View Drive on October 2 shortly after midnight. Upon arrival, deputies found a man and woman in the middle of the street.

When deputies attempted to make contact, the man immediately tried to flee on foot from the area. However, he was quickly apprehended by much faster running deputies.

The suspect identified as 47-year-old Richard Ortiz is a resident of Bay Point. Ortiz was taken into custody at 12:30 a.m.
The victim who sustained life-threatening injuries was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Unfortunately, she died several hours later despite efforts to save her.

Ortiz was transported and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility. He remains in custody behind bars in lieu of $1,065,000 bond.

Ortiz faces five charges, pending a review of the case by the Contra County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation of exactly what happened remains active.

Presently, Ortiz faces charges for murder, assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence. He also faces charges for resisting an officer, and probation violation/re-arrest.
