NEWARK — An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with reckless gunshots fired in a residential area last month. Witnesses reported the shooting incident, which occurred not far from adjacent railroad tracks.
Patrol officers who responded found shell casings near the intersection of Overacker Avenue and Spetti Drive. However, no victims were located by authorities who combed the area for evidence.
The person believed responsible for the gunfire apparently left the area before police arrived. However, police detectives reviewed video recorded by a surveillance camera nearby, which enabled them to identify the suspect.
On September 29, Newark police detectives assigned to reduce gun violence located the suspect seated in his vehicle. A high-risk law enforcement stop was conducted to apprehend him.
His vehicle was subsequently searched. A loaded unregistered firearm was recovered from inside the vehicle. The firearm had no serial number.
A second search warrant was executed at a residence located on the 37000 block of Vallejo Street in Fremont. Antonio L. Sandoval, who is a resident of Fremont, was arrested by Newark police.
He was transported and booked at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. Sandoval is no longer in custody. He was released from jail the following day for $90,000 bail, according to a prepared statement from Newark PD.
Sandoval presently faces charges for carrying a loaded firearm, and negligent discharge of a firearm. He is scheduled to appear in court on November 29.
