A 22-year-old man has been arrested after physically and sexually assaulting a female student from Chapman University near her dorm.

Surveillance video of the suspect, later identified as 22-year-old Dalante Jerome Bell from Anaheim, was released to the public by the Orange Police Department on the afternoon of September 27th.  The assault took place three days prior at approximately 12:40 a.m. in the area of Walnut and Grand, where the student’s dorm was located.

Bell, whom the student described as wearing black clothing and a skeleton style mask or gator, was last seen walking south on Glassell.  He had taken off his sweatshirt and face covering by the time he was recorded on the surveillance video.

“Last night, after the photo of the suspect was released to the public, the suspect was brought to Chapman University to surrender by a family member and Chapman University notified the Orange Police Department,” states to the release.  “The suspect is not a student and has no connection to Chapman University.”

“We will not tolerate this type of heinous criminal activity in Orange,” Orange Police Chief Dan Adams said.  “We hope the students and staff of Chapman University and residents of Orange can regain a sense of safety knowing this suspect has been arrested and we are confident he will be held to answer on the charges.”

Bell was charged with assault and intent to commit rape and booked at Orange County Jail.

The Orange Police Department asks that anyone with information about this incident or additional victims contact Orange Police Detective Costa at 714-744-7521 or scosta@orangepd.org.
