From Riverside Police Department
RIVERSIDE, CA – On Friday, September 17, 2021 at approximately 8:35 p.m., Riverside Police Officers responded to the area of 3rd Street and Vine Street, in the Eastside neighborhood of Riverside, for a stabbing that just occurred. When they arrived, officers located an adult male victim suffering from a stab wound to his neck. They began performing lifesaving measures on the victim until Paramedics with the Riverside Fire Department arrived. He was then taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The victim was later identified as 34-year-old Ruben Delapaz of Riverside.
Detectives with the Robbery – Homicide Unit, along with Specialists from the Forensics Unit, responded and assumed the investigation. They have been assisted by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office.
During the investigation, detectives learned the identity of the suspect as Ray Salcido, 36-years-old of Riverside. They also determined he was currently on parole and wanted on an outstanding felony warrant, and fled to Northern California after the stabbing. With assistance from our METRO Team as part of their participation on the U.S. Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force, along with the Lodi Police Department, Mr. Salcido was located and safely apprehended at a residence in the city of Lodi. He was extradited back to Riverside County and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on October 15th. First-degree murder charges have been filed by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, and Mr. Salcido is currently being held in custody without bail.
This investigation is still ongoing and there are no further details to release at this time. The Riverside Police Department’s METRO Team consists of members from our full-time SWAT Team who deal with high-risk criminal activity in our city. They search for and apprehend dangerous suspects who commit violent crimes and pose a greater threat to our community. Members of the METRO Team have also been deputized as U.S. Marshals as part of their work with the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force. Through this task force, their primary mission is to provide service to the city of Riverside, but also give assistance to the U.S. Marshals Service for fugitives who flee to our city from other jurisdictions.
