“The Redding Police Department, Redding Fire Department, Shasta County Sheriff’s Office- boating safety and CHP-Northern Division Air operations responded to a reported river rescue along the bluffs in the 2000 block of North Bechelli this morning.
Redding Police Officers and Redding Firefighters walked the bluffs searching for a subject who reportedly summoned fisherman in a passing boat, asking them to call 911.
The Sheriff’s Office prepared to launch the rescue boat and CHP responded with a helicopter. Ultimately, the helicopter was able to hoist the subject off the river bank and fly him to a nearby field where Redding Police Officers continued their investigation. The subject was identified as Gordon Vance, 30 years of Redding.
Vance was evasive but stated he was testing out his new boots in the area when he slipped over the bluffs. Officers determined Vance had one felony and one misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. Vance was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail for his warrants.
The Redding Police Department would like to thank the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and CHP-Northern Division Air operations for their assistance.”
