Two women arrested in alleged Halloween night assault in Placerville
Two women have been arrested for the alleged physical assault of a woman and her friend in Placerville on Halloween night.
Theodora Economou and Vivian Bertrand are accused of assaulting a woman who’d confronted them for allegedly damaging private property at around 10:30 PM on Sunday, October 31. The two allegedly attacked the victim with an “edged weapon” that left her with a severe facial wound near her left eye, police said.
A male friend who’d been with the victim intervened to try and stop the attack and was himself assaulted, according to police. After that the man, along with multiple witnesses, reportedly chased the two suspects as they fled the scene.
Although the male victim was able to detain Bertrand until officers arrived, Economou reportedly jumped over a chain link fence which took her to the creek behind main street, and hid under heavy shrubbery until police eventually found her. Officers later recovered a small, hatchet-like weapon believed to have been used in the assault.
The female victim was treated at a local medical center for a severe injury to her face. The male victim, who’d sustained an injury to his left thumb, was treated at the scene and later sought medical attention at a hospital.
Both Economou and Bertrand were ultimately arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and booked at the El Dorado County jail.
