Suspect Arrested at Apartment Complex for Murder of his Acquaintance
OAKLAND — A suspect was arrested in an East Oakland neighborhood, shortly after he allegedly murdered an acquaintance. The suspect remains in custody ineligible for release on bond, pending his arraignment.
This fatal shooting occurred October 29 at an apartment complex located on the 900 block of 85 th Avenue. Mutual acquaintances of the suspect and victim live at the same complex.
The suspect identified as Leland Moore, 51, phoned 911 and reported the shooting. The victim sustained multiple gunshot injuries shortly after 4:30 p.m.
The victim was gunned down outside an apartment, close to where the suspect lives. The victim was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Apparently, this fatal shooting was triggered by an argument between the two men. The victim in this dispute was a 22-year-old man, Harold Jackson of San Pablo.
Police hauled Moore away less than one hour after the shooting. He was arrested at 5:15 p.m. In addition, officers recovered an illegal firearm from him.
Moore remains behind bars at Santa Rita Jail. He was booked October 30 at 2:21 a.m., on suspicion of committing five felonies related to this homicide.
On November 4, Oakland police announced that charges against Moore have been filed by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
His charges include murder and four weapons-related charges, including possession of a firearm by a felon.
Moore has had previous trouble with the law. In 1993, he was arrested and convicted for assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury.
