“On October 15, 2021, at about 12:05 AM, a Calaveras County Canine Deputy was conducting a regular patrol of the Valley Springs area when they observed a suspicious vehicle with no license plates parked near a closed business on Nove Way, Valley Springs.
The deputy contacted the driver, suspect William Alexander Benton (43 years of age, San Francisco). During the contact, the deputy deployed his K-9 partner to check the vehicle for illegal drugs.
During the search, K-9 Nox assisted in locating approximately 39.81 grams of Methamphetamine and 23 hypodermic needles. Suspect Brenton was charged with 11377 H&S Possession of Drugs (Misdemeanor) and 11364 H&S Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Misdemeanor).
Due to only misdemeanor crimes, Suspect Brenton was issued a citation and released at the scene.
Eight days later, On October 23, 2021, at about 10:20 PM, deputies were conducting an extra patrol of the West Point Veterans Hall when they observed a suspicious vehicle parked in the front parking lot. The deputy began questioning the driver, suspect Brenton, why he parked his vehicle at a closed establishment.
During the contact, the deputy located approximately 33.8 grams of methamphetamine, (1) hypodermic needle and other items consistent with sales of illegal drugs inside the vehicle. This time, he was arrested without incident and transported to the county jail.
Suspect Benton was charged with 11379.2 H&S Possession of Drugs for Sale (Felony), 11379 H&S Transportation of Drugs (Felony) and 11364 H&S Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Misdemeanor). He is being held with a $30,000.00 bail.”
