When it comes to prurient crimes of a sexual nature involving children as victims, some habits apparently die hard.
That may be the issue surrounding the November 12 th arrest of Santa Paula resident 36-year-old Travis Martin. According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Detective Meagan Yates, Martin had been the subject of considerable law enforcement interest since November 5 th , when it was reported that he had been sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl “for
several years.”
When the Ventura Police Department received that report, the VCSD Major Crimes Unit, VCSD Gang Unit, VCSD Investigations Unit and the Thousand Oaks Sexual Assault Unit all went into action. The initial report indicated that the child “disclosed that she was molested by a family friend while in Anaheim and at Mono Lake.”
The ensuing investigation revealed that “additional acts happened at the suspect’s residence in Ventura County” and that Martin has a history as a registered sex offender with an arrest “for similar crimes” dating back to 2006.
A search warrant was issued for Martin and his residence; that warrant was served on November 12 th , at which time “numerous items” of evidence were discovered and seized.
Martin was taken into custody and transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked on multiple charges “related to child sexual abuse.” He remains in custody on a no-bail hold.
