Prolific Offender Arrested for a Shooting at Aquatic Park, Drugs and Weapons
Phot0: seized from Disburke
BERKELEY — U.S. Marshals and Berkeley detectives arrested a prolific offender wanted for a shooting that occurred at Aquatic Park. The 37-year-old victim was pistol whipped and shot as he ran away from his assailant.
A witness reported this shooting on September 9 at 1:52 a.m. Responding officers located evidence of the shooting at the south end of the park. However, no suspect or victim was located there.
The gunshot victim phoned police a short time later, after realizing that he had been shot. The victim waited on the porch of a nearby house for officers to arrive. He was then transported to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound in his leg.
Detectives assigned to the case identified Dejon L. Disburke, 46, as the shooting suspect. On November 18 at 6 a.m., Disburke was arrested at his Oakland residence.
From inside his home, authorities confiscated weapons, heroin and cocaine packaged for sale. A bicycle reported stolen was also recovered.
Disburke was booked at Santa Rita Jail for multiple felonies. He remains in custody ineligible for release on bond, pending arraignment on December 6.
A total of 14 charges were filed against Disburke including assault with a semiautomatic firearm. His other charges are also firearms-related and for receiving stolen property.
As a lifelong offender, Disburke has been incarcerated many times in county jail and state prison. Disburke’s rap sheet includes prior arrests for drug dealing and weapons dating back to 1993, including several convictions.
