December 1, 2021 – Santa Barbara County, CA
It was at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Monday, November 29 th when Lompoc Police were called to the scene of a reported street shooting on South 3 rd Street. Upon arrival, cops found a 34- year-old male suffering critical gunshot wounds.
According to Lompoc Police Department spokesman Sgt. Sergio Arias, the victim—later identified as 34-year-old Jordan Savard–was rushed to the hospital but died enroute.
Police promptly imposed a lockdown of a nearby elementary school and initiated a widespread search for the shooting suspect involving multiple Lompoc Police Department and Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s units. As night fell, no suspect had been located. The ensuing investigation lead detectives to identify 21-year-old Lompoc resident Daniel Birdsell as the shooter, with the understanding that he had fled the county.
Two days later, on December 1 st , Birdsell was located in Oceanside, Ca. Working in concert with local law enforcement and “with the assistance of the Oceanside Police Department,” contact with Birdsell was initiated and he was taken into custody. He was then transported back to Santa Barbara County and booked into the Lompoc City Jail on a charge of murder. He remains in custody on a no-bail hold.
