A Salinas man with active felony warrants was recently arrested after being spotted by an officer during the officer’s morning coffee run, according to police.
Earlier this month, a Salinas police officer who dropped by Starbucks noticed 31-year-old Andrew Salcido, whom he knew to have multiple outstanding felony warrants, walking in the Creek bridge area. The officer radioed for other officers, who arrived just as Salcido was getting into his vehicle, police said.
Salcido then allegedly tried to flee in his vehicle by driving down a dirt path, but his vehicle slid down a hill and crashed into a tree. From there Salcido tried to flee on foot, but was quickly apprehended. A loaded firearm, which Salcido is prohibited from owning as a convicted felon, was later found in his vehicle, police said.
Police later served a search warrant at Salcido’s home, where they reportedly found about $15,000 in cash and a butane honey oil lab.
Salcido was ultimately booked at the Monterey County jail.
