Early this morning, the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s SWAT team arrested 49-year-old Steven Berrigan at a home in the Twin Pines Mobile Home Park in Jamestown while effecting a search warrant. The SWAT team deployed after a lengthy investigation by the Sheriff’s Investigations Division related to Berrigan. Information gathered by detectives revealed Berrigan had a homemade explosive devise and planned on using the device against law enforcement.

Berrigan had felony warrants for evading our deputies in Tuolumne in early November and an arrest our deputies made in early June for the sale and transportation of methamphetamine and resisting arrest. Additionally, Berrigan is the suspect in a criminal threats case and a felony domestic battery case. Both cases were reported in the last week.

Berrigan was booked for his warrants and is likely to face additional charges. The investigation is still active. Additional details will be released once available.

We thank our community for their continued trust in our office to keep the community safe. We hope you all enjoy the remainder of the weekend.
