Man recklessly driving Polaris RZR arrested for evading police and endangering lives of minor passengers
An 18-year-old male was arrested for child endangerment and evading police after recklessly driving and fleeing from police in a Polaris RZR.
The suspect, Kevin Herrera Serano of Ontario, was first spotted in the blue Polaris RZR by the Fontana Station patrol Sergeant at approximately 4:39 p.m. on Saturday, December 4th. Serano, along with two other quads, were “driving recklessly on the roadway near Cedar Avenue and 7th Street in the unincorporated area of Bloomington,” according to the release. Serano took off in the Polaris RZR and left the other two quads, who then started to race each other.
When the Sergeant attempted to stop the activity by conducting a traffic stop, the drivers did not comply. Instead, at least one of the quads fled the scene, leading police on a chase for several miles that ended in a field close to South Riverside Avenue and Cline Ranch, “where the pursuit was terminated for public safety.”
At the same time, Serrano was was found in the Polaris RZR by Fontana Deputy Cunningham, who also attempted a traffic stop and was also ignored. The deputy subsequently pursued Serrano through “several areas of Bloomington where Serrano drove recklessly through stop signs, in the opposite lane of the road, and around other vehicles on the road,” according to the release. A police helicopter found him and began pursuing him as well before the chase ended in a yard in the area of Santa Ana Avenue and Alder Avenue.
It was discovered that there were three people inside the Polaris RZR, and two of them were minors. All three individuals were apprehended, along with assistance from the Fontana Police Department. Serrano was booked at the West Valley Detention Center and charged with felony evading and child endangerment.
