On Thursday, December 30, 2021, at approximately 5:44 p.m., our Sheriff’s Communications Center received a call in 4700 block of Roosevelt Avenue regarding a shooting that just occurred.
Deputies responded and located an adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Deputies performed life-saving measures while fire personnel responded. The subject was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene investigators responded to the scene, interviewed witnesses and gathered evidence. Based on preliminary investigation, our detectives believe that this is an isolated incident and the victim was targeted. We do not believe there is a threat to the neighborhood or surrounding community. No further information or suspect information is available at this time.
The identity of the victim in this case will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after identification and notification of next of kin.

Homicide Detectives from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office identified and arrested Larnell Looney (38) of Shasta County for the December 30, 2021 homicide that occurred on Roosevelt Avenue. Looney was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for one felony count of murder. No suspects are outstanding. There is no booking photo or further information at this time.
