CHATSWORTH – A red 2006 Toyota Tacoma was heading westbound on Plummer Street when it
collided with two bicyclists heading in the same direction. The 3/4-ton pickup truck had hit a female
bicyclist in her 30’s and a male bicyclist in his 50’s at about 7:10 PM on 01/05/2022.
Outweighed by epic proportions, the cyclists were left to fend for themselves as the driver fled the
scene. The Tacoma continued on, colliding with multiple vehicles and property.
The only thing that stopped this vehicular mayhem was its colliding into a wall on Knapp Street, west of
De Soto Avenue. Witnesses detained the driver while awaiting Los Angeles Police Department’s swift
response.
Police arrived on-scene as Los Angeles Fire Department responded to render aid. The two bicyclists
perished at the scene of the collision.
Police ID’d the male driver of the Toyota Tacoma as Nelson Rodriguez (58), of Chatsworth, and had him transported for medical treatment to a local hospital.
As a result, Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division arrested
Rodriguez for 187(A) PC-Murder, after his involvement in the fatalities.
LAPD is withholding the identities of the two deceased bicyclists – pending notification of their next-of-kin.
In the meantime, LAPD reminds all to Never DRINK AND DRIVE.
Drinking and driving combined with other traffic violations kills innocent lives. This reckless act carries
serious consequences.
