January 24, 2022 – Ventura County, Ca.
It was just after 8:00 a.m. on January 18 th when the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Moorpark Patrol Station was alerted by a 911 Emergency call to “an explosion” in a nearby Moorpark residential area.
According to VCSD spokesman Det. Sgt. Kevin Lynch, responding deputies promptly arrived at the reported residence and began an investigation that led to the discovery of “evidence indicating that a suspect attempted the ignite the fuel tank” of a vehicle parked in the driveway of the home. Moments later, deputies discovered “an explosive device” that had been ignited in the backyard of the residence.
The ensuing investigation, conducted by deputies and detectives attached to the Moorpark Investigations Bureau, indicated that 19-year-old Fillmore resident Nathan Olivares was responsible for all the commotion. Attempts to locate Olivares proved fruitless for the next 48 hours, but on the morning of January 20 th Olivares was spotted by patrol deputies driving through the City of Moorpark.
A traffic stop of Olivares’ vehicle was immediately conducted and he was taken into custody “without incident” and a search warrant for his residence was quickly obtained. That warrant was served the same morning, during which VCSD detectives and Bomb Squad personnel “located several additional pieces of evidence” pointing to Olivares as the responsible party.
He was then transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked on multiple counts of attempted arson and for possession of a destructive device, with his bail set at $150,000.
