CULVER CITY – A “Suspicious Subject” call came in at approximately 1:05 PM on 01/27/2022. Culver City Police Department (CCPD) Officers were radioed to head over to the 10100 block of Washington Blvd. – where an individual was seated inside a U-Haul truck.
Arriving officers encountered a female subject sitting in the driver’s seat. A DMV Vehicle Check revealedthat U-Haul had reported a truck stolen out of San Diego County, the day before. Consequently, thedriver was asked to exit the vehicle.
At this point, the subject became non-compliant. She stayed planted where she was, and refused to exit the stolen vehicle.
An immediate response from the Department’s Mental Health Team tag-teamed with the Department’s Crisis Negotiation Team. Their reported goal was to build a rapport with the female.
Two hours later – attempts to negotiate a peaceful exit from the vehicle were met with absolute refusal. A plan among officers was formulated to safely contact the barricaded suspect.
As a result, she was taken into custody without incident. Team members determined that the female displayed mental health issues – which resulted in transport for psychiatric evaluation at a local hospital.
Anyone with any information or queries regarding this incident is encouraged to please contact the Culver City Police Department Public Information Officer, Sergeant Eddie Baskaron at (310) 253-6316 or the Watch Commander at (310) 253-6202.
