San Francisco police have announced the arrest of a man accused of attacking and sexually assaulting an elderly woman last month.
Late on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 5, officers responded to the area of Mansell Street and Visitacion Avenue to investigate a report of sexual assault. An unknown assailant had reportedly attacked a 71-year-old woman while she was walking by herself, and fled after hearing the voices of a couple walking by.
The couple, having witnessed the assault, promptly called police, and a Good Samaritan helped the victim get in contact with her husband, who soon arrived and took her to an area hospital, police said.
The victim reportedly described the suspect as a Latino or other race male with a light complexion, standing approximately 5-foot-7 with a stocky build and a bowl cut. Police were later able to develop a sketch of the suspect based on information from the victim and community members, which led to the identification of 26-year-old Angel Leonel Garcia as the primary suspect.
Police located Garcia on the afternoon of January 12, in the area of Arleta Avenue and Rutland Street, and took him into custody on suspicion of mayhem, false imprisonment, and elder abuse.
