EL CENTRO – Indio was the hot spot when El Centro Sector Agents swooped in for an approach on the highway during an apparent smuggling attempt. The intercept took place on the I-10 at approximately 3 A.M.
Agents set a vehicle stop in motion on a 2016 silver Chevy Impala, east of the Golf Center Parkway exit. Fortunately, the search was consensual.
The smooth operation led agents to reveal two duffel bags in the trunk. Stuffed with several small vacuum-sealed packages, the crystal-like white substance tested positive for methamphetamine.
At this point, the anonymous U.S. citizen was deemed in possession of meth with an estimated street value of $104,880 for the 87.4 pounds of illegal narcotics. The Drug Enforcement Administration was the final stop for the driver, the vehicle and the drugs.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the comprehensive management, control, and protection of our nation’s borders, combining customs, immigration, border security, and agricultural protection at and between official ports of entry.
USBP Chief Patrol Agent Gregory K. Bovino took to social media to tout the continued success of smuggling interception with the 2/10/2022 10:50 AM message, “🚨METH BUST❗El Centro Sector agents halt 87lbs of dangerous meth during a #smuggling attempt. This is the 3rd bust in just a few days totaling over $306k of #meth seized and off the streets.”
