MAMMOTH LAKES – Mono County District Attorney’s Office, Mammoth Lakes Police Department, and the California Highway Patrol are actively investigating a case that transpired during the wee hours of 01/28/2022. PD Dispatch received at call at approximately 2:05 AM regarding a pedestrian struck down.
A second call alerted that the victim who’d been downed by a vehicle was suffering from a head injury, breathing, but unconscious. An immediate response to the area near 3000 block of Chateau Road revealed that the driver of the vehicle had fled on foot.
The anonymous critical-condition victim was transported to Mammoth Hospital, then flown to to Renown Hospital in Reno, NV. The only facts released so far about the man (24) – is he’s in the USA on a work visa, originating from Uruguay, and he remains in the ICU.
The runaway driver was ID’d as Jaxson Aubert (19) of El Segundo. Preliminary investigation soon located Aubert, and took him into custody. Charges of felony hit-and-run causing great bodily injury, and driving under the influence of alcohol causing great bodily injury landed him in Mono County Jail, where he remains on $130,000 bond.
