“San Mateo, CA – On Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at approximately 10:39 a.m., San Mateo Police officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle parked near 26th Avenue and Flores Street. As officers arrived in the area, they observed the vehicle begin to move. The driver, later identified as Ronil Sharma, noticed the officers and drove at a high rate of speed southbound on Hacienda Street.
Sharma lost control and the vehicle collided with a fence and shrubbery before coming to a stop at the corner of 30th Avenue. Sharma exited the vehicle and attempted to flee. SMPD officers gave him lawful orders, and he complied. A passenger, later identified as Jaime Godinez, was taken into custody without incident.
SMPD examined the scene and continued the investigation. Officers conducted a search incident to arrest on Sharma. The search resulted in the location of drug paraphernalia and a usable amount of methamphetamine. Additionally, officers located a plastic bag, which contained approximately 11.34 grams of methamphetamine in the area where Sharma attempted to flee.
Officers also learned that both Godinez and Sharma stole license plates in the area nearby. Godinez was later booked into San Mateo County Jail for petty theft, possession of a controlled substance, possession of unlawful paraphernalia, and conspiracy. Sharma was later booked into San Mateo County Jail for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, petty theft, reckless driving causing injury, committing a felony while on bail or release, and conspiracy.
This remains an open and active investigation.”
