SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR CRIMINAL THREATS INVOLVING HATE CRIMES

“A suspect has been arrested for allegedly making criminal threats involving hate speech. The suspect has been identified as 53-year-old Todd Andrew Tyler of Browns Valley, Ca.

On February 20, 2022, Marysville Police Officer(s) took a report from two victims. The victims are coaches for the Marysville Joint Unified School District. Tyler had left several threatening messages on both victims’ phones. Tyler appeared to be upset with the coaches about his child’s position in a game. The victims played the phone messages for officers, which were confirmed to be threatening, racial towards the African American victim, and homophobic.

On February 22, 2022, at 7:29 a.m. Marysville Police Officers stopped Tyler at Highway 20 at East 22nd Street. Tyler was taken into custody without incident. A search of Tyler’s vehicle revealed a .45 caliber handgun with two loaded magazines located in the center console.

After the investigation concluded, Tyler was booked for 422 PC, criminal threats, 422.6(a) PC, hate speech involving threats, and 25400(a)(1) PC, carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle. Tyler remains in custody at the Yuba County Jail with a bail amount of $150,000 pending future court proceedings.”
