Sedan Carrying 3 First Rams Deputy, Then Patrol Car – Deputy-Involved Shooting
UNINCORPORATED WHITTIER – The investigation update has arrived – regarding a deputy- involved shooting, reported on Wednesday, 02/23/2022 at approximately 2:37 PM on the 14500 block of Chere Drive. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s (LASD) Homicide investigators have been hard at work rounding up details about the suspects responsible for the following events:
First, when Deputies from Norwalk Station knew that an auto-theft suspect was inside a blue sedan parked in the driveway, they made an attempt to contact its three occupants. Once the driver drove the car backwards and bulldozed straight towards the approaching deputies – a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
Next, the car-in-reverse rammed the black-and-white patrol car behind it. “The driver and occupants fled in the sedan, crashing into a wall before the sedan became disabled in the middle of the intersection of Telegraph Road and Armsdale Avenue,” said Deputy Grace Medrano, LASD.
“A female passenger was detained at the vehicle,” added Deputy Medrano, “while two males fled on foot but were taken into custody, nearby.” Release of all suspects’ IDs are pending the ongoing investigation. Two injuries with transport to a nearby hospital occurred. The anonymous Hispanic female in her early twenties was treated and released for gunshot wounds to her upper body, and the anonymous Hispanic man (20) – believed to be the driver – was listed in stable condition with gunshot wounds to his leg.
The third anonymous Hispanic man (21), wanted for auto theft, was not injured, and taken immediately into custody. Deputies recovered the loaded handgun on his person.
Transport to a nearby hospital attended to the deputy who’d been struck by the vehicle. He was treated and released.
A Late-Breaking evening advisary-update on 02/24/2022 announced that the driver was ID’d as Adrian Romero (20), who was put under arrest for ‘Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Police Officer.’ His booking will take place upon his hospital release.
Aldo Romero (21) was ID’d as the driver’s brother – who’d fled from the vehicle. Investigators learned that he’d been detained in a back yard by concerned citizens.
Additionally, Aldo was armed with a loaded semiautomatic (concealed in his waistband.) His subsequent arrest for a Vehicle Theft Warrant was added to his being booked for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The anonymous female was not arrested, as investigators determined her to be merely a passenger in the vehicle. No further information is available at this point of the ongoing investigation.
