“The Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team (SCCACT) has been hard at work in Watsonville. Over the last few days, members of the team have arrested five gang members and seized nearly half a dozen guns and drugs ready for sale.
The most recent arrest occurred following a traffic stop on Friday. When officers pulled over the car, the passenger, Greg Arias, ran from the officers. The chase ended after an officer tased Arias who was armed with a gun. Arias is on probation and is a convicted felon.
A total of three firearms, drugs, and body armor were seized in this case with the help of the Watsonville Police Department Special Investigations Unit and the Santa Cruz County Auto Theft Reduction and Enforcement (SCARE) Team.
A few days earlier, SCCACT arrested another four gang members in two unrelated cases: (1) Enrique Ortiz and Angel Ortiz (2) Fernando Carranza and Isiah Ruelas. Each case yielded a loaded gun and drugs for sale. All four suspects were actively on probation/parole in Santa Cruz County.
SCCACT is a local multiagency task force composed of personnel and other resources from law enforcement agencies in Santa Cruz County, including the Watsonville Police Department.”
