San Mateo police arrested two individuals who reportedly led officers on a pursuit in a stolen car.
On the morning of Tuesday, February 22, officers responded to the area of 26th Avenue and Flores Street following a tip that a stolen car had been spotted.
When the driver, later identified as 26-year-old Ronil Sharma, saw officers coming, he fled at high speed on southbound Hacienda Street, initiating a pursuit. The pursuit ended when Sharma lost control of the car, crashed through a fence and shrubs, and came to a stop at the corner of 30th Avenue, police said.
Though Sharma initially tried to flee when he first got out of the car, he ultimately complied with officers’ orders. His passenger, identified as 36-year-old Jaime Godinez, was also arrested.
Upon searching Sharma, officers reportedly found paraphernalia and methamphetamine. They also found a baggie containing about 11 grams of meth discarded in the area where Sharma tried to run away. Both individuals had also been stealing license plates, police said.
Sharma was booked on suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, petty theft, reckless driving causing injury, committing a felony while on bail or release, and conspiracy. Godinez was booked on suspicion of petty theft, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, and conspiracy.
