Antioch PD Apprehends 2 Suspects Wanted for a Carjacking in Cupertino
ANTIOCH — Two carjacking and robbery suspects were apprehended by Antioch officers assisting the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. One of the suspects was arrested immediately and the second suspect was first taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
Antioch PD was advised that Anthony Valdez, Jr., 22 of Antioch, was wanted for an armed carjacking and robbery in Cupertino. The victims were approached at a gas station by a man and woman brandishing a rifle.
The elderly victims’ vehicle was found abandoned a short time later. An automated license plate reader detected another vehicle associated with the carjacking/robbery. It is registered to Valdez.
On March 1, Antioch officers located this vehicle on Lone Tree Way and pursued it a short distance. It collided with another vehicle near the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue and Laurel Road in Antioch.
Valdez was detained by police before being transported to hospital for medical treatment. The driver of the other vehicle, a 58-year-old man was also taken to a hospital.
A woman who was with Valdez, Kiara Vasquez, 22 of San Jose, was transported and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail. Valdez and Vasquez each face charges for robbery, carjacking, and conspiracy to commit crime.
The carjacking occurred February 28 at 10:06 p.m. at the Valero Gas Station located at 1699 S. De Anza Boulevard in Cupertino. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office at 408-808-4500.
