OAKLEY — Two persons were taken into custody after a dead man was found inside a residence. The victim’s corpse was discovered when Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office detectives served a search warrant concerning another matter.
Detectives went to a residence on the 1400 block of Carpenter Road on March 2 to search for firearms and illicit drugs. They instead found a man evidently shot to death. The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Only two other persons were inside the home. Billy B. Cole, 32 of Oakley, and Anastashia M. Wilfong, 27 of West Sacramento, were both arrested. They are presently housed at the Martinez Detention Facility.
Cole apparently told detectives that he was about to phone police, concerning a dead body inside the home. Cole and Wilfong were subsequently detained, until Oakley police responded and arrested them a short time later.
Oakley officers also took a statement from a neighbor. The neighbor reported seeing a person at the house walking around outside with a firearm on the previous day.
Cole, charged with first degree murder, remains in custody in lieu of $2 million bond. The woman who was with him, Wilfong is charged with being an accessory after the fact. She remains in custody in lieu of $500,000 bond.
The sheriff’s office has since assumed responsibilities for this homicide case. Anyone with information can contact the sheriff’s office investigation division at 925-313-2600.
