A Kern County man and his juvenile son have been arrested in connection to numerous copper wire thefts, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
46-year-old Christopher Williams and his 16-year-old son have been identified and arrested as the primary suspects in a series of copper wire thefts from agriculture water wells throughout central California — in the areas of Buttonwillow, Shafter, Wasco, Old River, and McFarland — and causing several hundred thousand dollars worth of damage in the process, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Christopher Williams is also wanted for allegedly leading deputies on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle on March 1st, in an attempt to evade arrest in connection to the copper wire thefts, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Williams and his son were located and taken into custody on the afternoon of March 10, after reportedly being spotted that morning and temporarily eluding authorities.
Williams faces charges related to multiple copper wire thefts, as well as child endangerment, possession of a stolen vehicle, and multiple warrants. Williams’ son was booked into juvenile hall for an outstanding felony warrant.
