Nevada County man arrested, placed on emergency gun violence restraining order after two incidents involving firearms
A Nevada County man has been taken into custody and placed under a firearms restraining order following two recent incidents, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
In the two incidents, one on March 9 and the other on March 11, deputies responded to a residence near Clear Creek Place to investigate a potential mental health incident involving a man with a firearm. In the first incident, the man was determined not to meet the criteria for an involuntary mental health hold, but his firearm was seized nonetheless, the Sheriff’s Office said.
In the second incident, on March 11, authorities responded to the same residence, this time due to the man allegedly keeping another man hostage at gunpoint. Crisis negotiators also responded to the scene and were able to diffuse the situation. The armed man was taken into custody and also placed under an emergency gun violence restraining order. A second firearm was also seized.
The man, identified as Nicholas Mamula, remains in custody on $100,000 bail.
