“Brownsville – Yuba County Detectives are investigating the death of a 39-year-old Alaska man who was reportedly visiting relatives in Brownsville, where he allegedly vandalized a family member’s home before setting it on fire early this morning. Deputies responded to a 911 call from a residence in the 9200 block of La Porte Rd in Brownsville at approximately 2:40 am on 3/10/2022. The caller reported that her adult son had assaulted her and was destroying her house.

When Deputies arrived to the residence, they could see the man inside was bleeding from what appeared to be self-inflicted wounds. Additional people inside the mobile home exited and were taken to safety. The suspect was non-compliant and remained inside, when a fire started in the interior of the residence and quickly spread. Deputies continued to negotiate with the man in an attempt to get him out of the home as flames grew. When he finally came outside, he was combative but detained by deputies and removed from the porch of the fully engulfed residence.

While leading the man away from the fire, he became unresponsive. Paramedics were on scene and began CPR, and transported the suspect to Adventist-Rideout Hospital where he later died at approximately 6:00 a.m. this morning. A coroner’s investigation is underway to determine the man’s cause of death. Release of the decedent’s identity remains pending additional notification to out of area next-of-kin.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. We will release additional information as it becomes available.”
