“Just before 10 a.m. on March 28th, Placer County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence off Lake Forest Drive in Loomis for a welfare check. A citizen had reported they had not heard from their employer in a few days.
Deputies arrived at the residence and knocked on the door, but received no response. They continued making verbal notifications until they smelled a foul odor from behind the door.
Deputies began working on an entry plan and obtained a search warrant for the home when a male, 19-year old Dennis Lynch, exited the residence armed with a handgun.
Lynch immediately fled on foot into a forested area. While deputies searched for Lynch, additional responding deputies entered the home and discovered the two deceased bodies of his parents; 80-year-old Gerald Upholt and 67-year-old Katheryn Lynch.
At this time, deputies were searching for a suspect in connection to a double homicide. Dennis Lynch was found in a field on Lomida Lane a short time later, but again, he fled on foot from deputies. Lynch eventually made his way into a gated community off Auburn Folsom Road.
He was still armed when confronted by deputies and subsequently shot. Deputies immediately rendered aid to to Lynch while medical personnel arrived to the scene. Lynch was transported to a nearby hospital with non life-threatening injuries. No deputies were shot or injured during this incident. Lynch’s charges are pending.”
