The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a man in connection to multiple alleged incidents of property theft, as well as an alleged assault, and other charges.
44-year-old Nye Petros of Grass Valley was arrested on various charges relating to multiple incidents, the most recent of which involved a stand-off with authorities at his home.
It all began on the evening of February 9, when deputies were alerted to an assault and theft allegedly committed by Petros at a residence on Westhill Road, which was reportedly connected to an illegal marijuana sale. Petros had already fled by the time deputies arrived, the Sheriff’s Office said.
As investigators began digging into the case, they identified Petros as a suspect in prior incidents of theft involving the same victim. On February 21, investigators served a search warrant at Petros’ residence on Kentucky Flat Road in Nevada City, reportedly finding several items the victim had reported stolen. Petros wasn’t home at the time, the Sheriff’s Office said.
On March 29, deputies responded to the scene of an alleged domestic violence incident on Inspiration Lane in Grass Valley. Petros had reportedly barricaded himself inside a residence on the property and refused orders to come outside.
After numerous attempts to get Petros to come outside, deputies ultimately made entry along with K-9 Deputy Vito and were able to take him into custody without further incident.
On March 30, following Petros’ arrest, investigators secured another search warrant for a storage facility registered to Petros, where they reportedly discovered thirteen guns, some of which were semi-automatic, two of which were ghost guns, and one of which was a short-barreled rifle. Investigators also reportedly confiscated thousands of rounds of ammunition and body armor.
Petros remains in custody on numerous charges including robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, and being a felon in possession if firearms.
