Woman on Probation for Vehicle Theft is Arrested for Driving a Stolen Van to Court

DUBLIN — Brandy Leigh Jones surprised authorities at the East County Hall of Justice last month. On probation for car theft, Jones arrived at court in a stolen van to answer charges concerning another vehicle theft.
Jones, a 41-year-old unemployed resident of Oakland, has a history of arrests for vehicle thefts. She has been locked up 16 times for vehicle thefts, including her most recent arrest on March 28.
On that day, an automated license plate reader alerted Dublin police that a stolen van was detected in the city. Officers located the van being driven by Jones outside the courthouse. She was also found in possession of illicit drugs.
Nevertheless, Jones was allowed to proceed to her court hearing concerning another recent vehicle theft. When she was finished with that, Jones was promptly arrested at 12:08 p.m. She was returned to nearby Santa Rita Jail.
Jones was booked for –
Receiving a stolen motor vehicle
Taking a vehicle without owner’s consent
Possession of a controlled substance
Possession of drug paraphernalia
A total of 12 charges and special allegations were filed against Jones on March 30. Among other things that Jones has been accused of many times is forgery of vehicle registrations.
Jones also has numerous prior arrests for burglaries. That’s in addition to several drug-related arrests and one arrest for possession of an assault weapon. Altogether, she has been arrested 21 times since 2018.
