Gang Unit Locates Shooting Suspect in Possession of Several Firearms

“Merced – Merced PD Gang unit arrests a suspected gang member on probation in relation to a recent shooting and in possession of a handgun.
On April 7, 2022 at approximately 2:00 PM the Merced Police Departments Gang Violence Suppression Unit along with the Merced Sheriff Departments Supervise Release Team located Christian Mercado (21) in the 1600 block of Primrose Ave in Merced.
Mercado was a suspect in a recent shooting that occurred on April 1, 2022 in the 1000 block of X Street. Mercado was arrested for the shooting and a search warrant was served upon the residence where he was located. During a search of the home, two handguns were found. The firearms will be submitted to the Department of Justice crime lab to see if they are related to the recent shooting.
Officer Centeno arrested Mercado and he was booked into the Merced County Jail for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
