A Shasta County man was arrested after reportedly being spotted in a stolen vehicle, crashing said vehicle, and attempting to carjack a woman while running from police.
According to Redding PD, late on the night of March 31st, officers came across a stolen vehicle on the 4600 block of Churn Creek Road, occupied by a man identified as 64-year-old Michael Vandolah.
Officers tried to pull Vandolah over and he sped away, but the vehicle became disabled after he left the roadway. He fled on foot from there, police said.
During the foot pursuit, Vandolah allegedly attempted to force his way into an occupied vehicle and carjack the woman inside, but she’d seen him coming and had locked her doors, police said.
Vandolah was ultimately taken into custody with the help of a police K-9 officer and booked on suspicion of carjacking, evasion, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, and other charges.
At the time of his arrest, Vandolah was also found to be in possession of over 24 grams of suspected heroins, nearly a gram of suspected meth, and tools consistent with vehicle theft, police said.
