Andrew Pio has been arrested as the suspect in the March 31st attempted kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl in Anaheim. Anaheim police apprehended Pio following a vehicle pursuit that happened about a week after the incident.
The attempted kidnapping occurred around 2:45 PM on March 31st, in the 1600 block of West Ball Road. “The 13-year-old victim was walking home from Dale Jr. High school when she noticed a male sitting in a parked truck,” said Sgt. Shane Carringer. “The male exited the truck, contacted the student, and tried to shove her into the passenger seat of the vehicle.”
Several witnesses reported the incident, and Anaheim police notified the public about the suspect. His vehicle was described as possibly a white Toyota Tundra or Ford F150 with a gray tool rack in the truck bed.
Around 2:30 PM on April 8th, Anaheim police noticed a vehicle matching the description of the truck and attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the City of Brea. Pio, who was driving the truck, refused to pull over and led police on a pursuit.
The chase “ended after a spike-strip deployment by the California Highway Patrol, on the I-5 Freeway at La Paz Road,” said Sgt. Carringer. “During the subsequent investigation Anaheim PD investigators determined Pio was suspected of the March 31 attempted kidnapping.”
Pio was subsequently booked at the City of Anaheim Jail on $600,000 bail.
“Investigators are not releasing a booking photo of Pio at this time as the criminal investigation is continuing and additional witness identifications may be pending.”
Police are asking that anyone with information regarding this case contact Anaheim PD Detective Jacob Medina at 714 765-1419 or OC Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
