A Fresno man has been arrested in connection to a recent fatal shooting, according to police.
On the afternoon of Sunday, March 20, police had responded to reports of a collision followed by gunfire on the 3500 block of East Saginaw Way. At the scene, officers reportedly found a vehicle crashed into a garage door and 30-year-old Cory Childress inside the vehicle, unresponsive and having suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to an area medical center but ultimately pronounced deceased. Not long after, investigators were able to identify 22-year-old Anthony Munoz, whom police say is part of a criminal street gang, as the primary suspect in the fatal shooting.
On Monday, April 18, officers located Munoz at an apartment on the 1300 block of North Ninth Street. Though he was initially uncooperative, he eventually turned himself over peacefully after talks with crisis negotiators, police said.
Officers then searched the apartment and reportedly found a 9mm semi-automatic firearm, which police say is unrelated to the shooting.
Munoz was later booked at the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of murder, shooting into an inhabited dwelling, and illegal possession of a firearm.
