DUI suspect allegedly runs deputy off road, leads 90+ mph pursuit in Kings County
A Kings County woman has been arrested after allegedly running a deputy off the road and leading a high-speed pursuit whilst under the influence of alcohol, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
20-year-old Aaliyah Sanchez was identified as the suspect in a pursuit that took place shortly after 2 AM on Sunday, May 8, which began when she had allegedly run a patrol deputy off the road while driving in the opposing lane in rural Kings County.
The deputy made a U-turn and pursued Sanchez for several miles, during which she ran multiple stop signs and crossed into oncoming traffic, occasionally reaching 90+ mph, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies were eventually able to stop Sanchez’s car at the intersection of 17th and Iona Avenues by deploying Stop Sticks which punctured and deflated her tires.
When she spoke to deputies, Sanchez allegedly claimed that she hadn’t been able to see the patrol cars’ lights because they weren’t bright enough. Deputies noted that Sanchez smelled of alcohol and conducted a DUI evaluation, ultimately concluding that she was under the influence.
Sanchez was arrested and booked at the Kings County Jail on suspicion of evading and DUI. She was later released on $40,000 bail.
