San Francisco PD: Suspect arrested in September 2021 Bayview carjacking
A man has been arrested on suspicion of carjacking a taxi driver in the Bayview district of San Francisco last September, according to police.
On September 11, 2021, officers from the city’s Bayview Station responded to Barneveld and Gerald Avenues to investigate an alleged carjacking. The victim, a 64-year-old man, said he’d been sitting in his Ford Escape yellow taxi when a man got into the vehicle, stated his intent to take it, and tried to take the keys.
A struggle ensued over the keys, but the victim ultimately disengaged out of fear for his safety when the suspect allegedly put him in a headlock, police said. The suspect then took the vehicle and drove way.
The victim turned over items the suspect had left at the scene, and police were able to obtain surveillance video. They were able to identify the suspect as 39-year-old Christian Hoffman of San Francisco.
Hoffman was located and arrested on April 21, 2022, in Napa County, and ultimately confessed to the carjacking, police said. He has since been booked at the San Francisco County Jail.
