Upland man accused of attempted murder during road rage incident, arrested in Las Vegas
A man has been arrested for attempted murder after a road rage incident led to gunfire in an unincorporated area of Chino.
The suspect, 45-year-old Matthew Schourup of Upland, was apprehended in Las Vegas, Nevada and is waiting to be extradited to California.
The incident took place the evening of Wednesday, May 18th, in the 11000 block of Monte Vista Avenue. The victim reported to officers that he was “shot at several times by an unknown male adult who drove a white van,” according to Chino Hills Detective Andrew McCoy. The victim, who was in the vehicle with two other confidential males, sustained a minor injury and received medical treatment at the scene. Officers “observed several bullet holes in the victim’s vehicle,” and “learned the shooting occurred as a result of a road rage incident.”
The shooter had apparently abandoned his white van, which deputies found and used to identify Schourup. The District Attorney’s Office issued a $1 million arrest warrant for Schourup, who was being charged with attempted murder of the three male individuals.
Schourup was arrested by United States Marshals Service in Las Vegas at around 3:30 AM on Thursday, May 26th. He was booked at Clark County Detention Center.
