Yucca Valley man and woman accused of child abuse and torture of two children
A man and woman from Yucca Valley have been arrested for abusing and torturing two young boys in their care.
Mark Lehman (25) and Trinity Burright (22), both Yucca Valley residents, have been charged with child abuse and torture. They were booked at West Valley Detention Center on $1 million bail.
On the morning of May 22nd, Morongo Basin deputies were called out for a welfare check of a 3-year-old boy and a 5-year-old boy who were being cared for by Lehman and Burright. “The caller was concerned for the well-being of two young children at the location, who had physical injuries consistent with child abuse,” according to Deputy Shane Crowl and Detective Shaunna Ables in a press release.
Deputies discovered that Lehman and Burright had moved from their residence, located in the 55500 block of Twentynine Palms Highway in Yucca Valley, to avoid police; officers were, however, able to reach them by phone. “Lehman and Burright were not cooperative with deputies and refused to provide any information as to the children’s location,” according to the release.
Following an “extensive investigation” into the case, the children and suspects were all located at another residence in Yucca Valley at around 3 AM on Monday, May 23rd. Lehman and Burright were both arrested. “The children were taken into Children and Family Services custody and found to have extensive injuries consistent with ongoing physical abuse.”
