“On Sunday, May 29th, BCSO deputies were dispatched to the area of Lower Wyandotte Road in Oroville on reports of a suspicious vehicle in area. When deputies arrived, they located a van parked on the side of the road.
Deputies contacted a female, who admitted to being the driver of the van. The female initially gave deputies a false name, but was later identified as Nakitta Weaver, age 25 of Oroville. A records check through BCSO dispatch showed Weaver had two warrants for her arrest, one for theft and one for forgery.
Weaver was wearing latex gloves, and deputies located several articles of U.S. mail on the ground next to where Ms. Weaver was sitting, some of which had already been opened. Deputies searched the vehicle and located additional mail inside, as well as suspected methamphetamine, paraphernalia, and tools often used to commit mail theft. In total, deputies located mail belonging to at least 15 people.
Weaver was arrested for her warrants, felony identity theft, possession of burglary tools, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was booked into the Butte County Jail. Deputies are currently working on returning the mail to the rightful owners.”
