The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Street Team continues to enjoy protracted job security, as evidenced by the June 10 th arrest of Los Angeles County resident Kevin Mercier.
According to VCSD spokesman Sgt. Odilon Malagon, “information regarding the drug trafficking activities” of Mercier came to the attention of the Narcotics Street team over “the past several months.” What caught the attention of law enforcement, apparently, was the continued “distribution of bulk quantities” of controlled substances to Ventura County’s “street-level drug dealers.” The products purveyed by Mercier to these dealers would then be “obtained” by local area members of the public engaged in the use of a wide range of narcotics, pharmaceuticals, and hallucinogens.
After months of investigation, the Narcotics Street Team served a search warrant on Mercier’s Hollywood apartment residence. Once inside the unit, detectives discovered and seized “116 grams of methamphetamine, 353 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, counterfeit hydrocodeon and Xanax pills, over 40 ounces of promethazine syrup, 1700 grams of marijuana”…and the list goes on. Also found at the scene were multiple illegal firearms and cash derived from drug
sales.
Based on that evidence, Mercier was taken into custody at the scene and transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked on a plethora of narcotics and weapons charges with his bail set at $50,000.
