It was must clearly be an embarrassing moment for the leadership of Ventura County Government, the June 17 th arrest of 40-year-old Ashley Bautista, the county’s Senior Deputy Executive Officer, proves that drunk driving is a crime for which law enforcement does not turn a blind eye.
According to City of Ventura Police spokesman Cmdr. Ryan Weeks, Bautista rear-ended a vehicle “at a stop sign waiting to turn onto Harbor Boulevard.” Rather than stop her vehicle, Bautista “continued driving after the collision.” Witnesses to the accident then followed her until she pulled over, “roughly two miles from the crash site.”
At that point, Ventura Police officers rolled up t the scene and began an investigation that indicated Bautista was under the influence of alcohol and had indeed been the cause of the accident. While no injuries were reported, Bautista was arrested for driving under the influence and for driving away from the scene of an accident, both misdemeanors.
Bautista was transported to Ventura County Jail, where she was booked on those charges. After a night in jail, she was released on her own recognizance and has since resigned from her $203,340 per year position with the county.
