Former President of USA Softball arrested for alleged sex crimes against minor

“On April 14, 2022, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office arrested 61-year-old John Gouveia of Castro Valley, California for 8 felony counts of Lewd Lascivious Act w/Child Under 14 Years of Age. Gouveia worked for the national governing council for girls’ softball in the United States between the years of 1991-2019, which included extensive travel both nationally and internationally as Commissioner of USA Softball of Northern California and the President of USA Softball.
Gouveia also worked with the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District for 25 years until he retired as the General Manager in 2016. The victim stemming from this arrest was not associated with USA Softball or the Park District and investigators are not implicating the organization(s).
Gouveia was booked into the Alameda County Jail back in April on the arrest warrant with $250,000 bail. Mr. Gouveia arranged for a bond and was released the same day. No additional information is available at this time.
